Preptile — Coding Interview Prep App · Effective March 1, 2026

This privacy policy explains what data Preptile collects, how it's used, and your rights. I've written it in plain English because you shouldn't need a law degree to understand a privacy policy.

Preptile is developed and operated by an individual developer based in India. It is available on iOS and Android.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Anonymous Analytics

We use PostHog to collect anonymous usage analytics. This includes events such as:

• Which features you use (e.g. quiz started, question answered, interview recorded)
• Session duration and frequency
• App version and general device information (OS version, screen size)

A random UUID is generated on your device to distinguish unique sessions. This ID is not linked to your real identity, name, email, or any account. No personally identifiable information (PII) is sent to PostHog.

1.2 Interview Recordings

When you use the mock interview feature, your audio recording is sent to our server for transcription (using OpenAI Whisper) and AI-based scoring. Recordings are processed in real time and discarded immediately after processing. We do not store your interview recordings permanently.

1.3 Subscription Data

Subscriptions are managed entirely by Apple (App Store) and Google (Play Store) through RevenueCat. We receive information about your subscription status (active, expired, etc.) but we do not receive or store your payment details — those are handled by Apple and Google.

1.4 Data Stored Locally on Your Device

All of the following data is stored locally on your device only using AsyncStorage. It is never sent to any server:

• Quiz progress and scores
• Spaced repetition (SRS) scheduling data
• Practice statistics and streaks
• App preferences and settings

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

Preptile does not collect any of the following:

• Real name or username
• Email address
• Phone number
• Precise or coarse location
• Contacts or address book
• Photos, camera, or microphone data (other than the interview feature described above)
• Health or fitness data
• Browsing history
• Device identifiers like IDFA/GAID (advertising IDs)

No account or sign-up is required to use Preptile.

3. How We Use Your Data

Data	Purpose
Anonymous analytics	Understand which features are used, identify bugs, and improve the app
Interview recordings	Provide transcription and AI scoring feedback (processed and discarded)
Subscription status	Unlock premium features and manage access
Random device UUID	Distinguish unique sessions in analytics (not linked to identity)

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

4. Third-Party Services

Preptile uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

• PostHog — Anonymous usage analytics
• RevenueCat — Subscription management
• Apple App Store — App distribution and in-app purchases (iOS)
• Google Play Store — App distribution and in-app purchases (Android)

These services may collect data as described in their respective privacy policies. We encourage you to review them.

5. Data Retention

• Analytics data (PostHog): Retained for up to 12 months, then automatically deleted.
• Interview recordings: Processed in real time and discarded immediately. Not stored.
• Subscription status: Retained by RevenueCat for the duration of your subscription plus any legally required retention period.
• On-device data: Stored locally until you delete the app or clear app data. We have no access to this data.

6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Preptile is a native mobile app and does not use cookies. We do not use web-based tracking pixels or fingerprinting.

The only identifier used is a randomly generated UUID stored on your device for analytics purposes. This is not an advertising identifier and is not shared with ad networks.

7. Advertising

Preptile does not currently display any advertisements. If we introduce ads in the future, this privacy policy will be updated before any ad-related data collection begins, and you will be notified.

8. Your Rights

For All Users

You have the right to:

• Access — Request information about what data we have associated with your device UUID
• Deletion — Request deletion of your analytics data
• Opt-out of analytics — Contact us to opt out of PostHog analytics collection
• Delete local data — Uninstall the app or clear app storage to remove all on-device data

For EU/EEA Users (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you additionally have the right to:

• Data portability — Receive your data in a machine-readable format
• Rectification — Request correction of inaccurate data
• Restriction — Request that we limit processing of your data
• Object — Object to data processing based on legitimate interests
• Lodge a complaint — File a complaint with your local data protection authority

Our legal basis for processing anonymous analytics is legitimate interest (improving the app). For interview recording processing, the legal basis is performance of a contract (providing the service you requested).

For California Users (CCPA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have the right to:

• Know what personal information is collected and how it is used
• Request deletion of personal information
• Opt out of the sale of personal information — we do not sell your personal information
• Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

Since we collect only anonymous analytics with no PII, CCPA requirements are largely satisfied by design. If you still wish to exercise your rights, please contact us.

9. Children's Privacy

Preptile is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

This complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar regulations.

10. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the data we process:

• Interview recordings are transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and discarded after processing
• Analytics data is transmitted securely to PostHog
• On-device data is protected by your device's own security measures

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. International Data Transfers

Anonymous analytics data may be processed in countries outside your own, including the United States (where PostHog processes data). By using Preptile, you consent to this transfer. We ensure that any data transfers comply with applicable data protection laws.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Effective" date at the top and, for significant changes, notify you through an in-app notice or app store update notes.
